The Jersey Street Merchant Association will host an Earth Day event on April 27, 2019 Noon in the lot across from Columbia Meat Market. The event is designed to beautify Jersey Street by planting the tree beds with colorful flowers that will bloom all year long. There will be food and giveaways for every volunteer who helps us plant plus entertainment by Red Storm Drum & Dance Troupe who will display Native American artifacts and tell the story of Native Americans of Staten Island & New York. The event is free and all are welcome.
The National Lighthouse Museum is a one of a kind museum dedicated to the history of lighthouses around the country. The museum is located on Staten Island on the grounds of the future Lighthouse Point adjacent to the St. George Ferry Terminal. The site was chosen for the museum following a nation-wide Request for Proposals issued by the American Lighthouse Coordinating Committee in 1998. 17 proposals were submitted from organizations throughout the nation. In 2013, DB Lampman and Scott Van Campen founded Staten Island Makerspace, an incubator space for those who use their hands, head and heart to create one of a kind items. The space is located at 450 Front Street across from Urby Staten Island. The project was borne from a collaboration between Lampman, Van Campen and the New York City Economic Development Corporation with the support of local elected officials and business organizations. On Friday December 16, 2016 the Jersey Street Merchant Association will host its first annual Christmas Party at 382 Jersey Street. The party will include gifts from Santa, food, music and fun for the whole family. Admission is free.
